Join us in welcoming Summer Associate Paxton Deuel to the Sussman Shank team.

Paxton is a second-year law student at Willamette University and earned a B.A. in Political Science from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.  Additionally, he holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Portland.  Paxton served as a Law Clerk at Willamette University’s Community Justice and Environmental Law Clinic, and the Trusts & Estates Clinic.  Paxton’s educational background and accomplishments will complement the work assignments and projects – and we look forward to giving him the opportunities for professional and personal growth.

“At this point in my career, working at a firm with strong mentorship and training is my top priority. This summer, I’m looking forward to learning all I can about business, litigation, and commercial bankruptcy law from the team of attorneys and mentors at Sussman Shank,” says Paxton.

Paxton has a passion for the sport of tennis and a long history of successful competition, superior athleticism, and coaching.  He recently completed his first year as the assistant coach for the Willamette University Men’s tennis team and Women’s tennis team. Paxton was also the Boys’ Tennis Head Coach at Summit High School in Bend, Oregon, from 2018-21. He received the Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year Award in 2019.

While at Trinity University, he was a three-time All-American and won two Regional Championships in singles. Paxton was chosen as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Year two times, and was the winner of the ITA West Region Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award in 2016.

We are excited to have Paxton join us this summer!

Summer Associate Program

Our summer associate program is designed to give law students exposure to real-world law firm experience through a diverse range of opportunities and assignments in many of the firm’s practice areas.  Our goal is to provide students with substantive and practical knowledge by working closely with attorneys on individualized assignments.  We also take pride in introducing students to the culture of our firm and to our people through social events organized during the summer in Portland.
