Sussman Shank LLP is pleased to announce that our partner, Heather A. Kmetz, was elected a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel (ACTC). Heather was one of just 13 tax lawyers elected to the ACTC on January 29, 2021.
Formed in 1981, the ACTC is a professional association of tax attorneys and is comprised of about 800 tax attorneys across the United States. The fellows of the American College of Tax Counsel comprise top tax professionals recognized for their extraordinary accomplishments and dedication to improving the practice of tax law. Fellows must be nominated for membership and satisfy rigorous standards and screening.
Heather’s tax practice is focused on assisting closely held businesses, high-net-worth individuals, and not-for-profit organizations in establishing tax-sensitive wealth preservation plans and transactions. Her experience with closely held businesses includes corporate and partnership law, succession planning, and federal income and estate tax matters. Heather represents individuals with their wealth and estate planning needs, including trust and estate administration. Her representation of not-for-profit organizations includes all facets of federal income taxation and state taxation, as well as contract matters and governance issues.
Heather currently serves as President of the Portland’5 Centers for the Arts Foundation and has been a member of the Oregon State Bar Taxation Section Executive Committee since 2013. Additionally, Heather serves on the Northwestern University Alumni Admission Council, conducting regional interviews for prospective students. Heather is recognized as an Oregon Super Lawyer.
