Sussman Shank’s Tyler Volm has been elected to serve as the Vice President of the Multnomah Bar Foundation (MBF) Board of Directors.

His one-year term began on January 1, 2023. The MBF, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded in 2005 as the charitable arm of the Multnomah Bar Association (MBA). The MBF’s mission is to increase the public’s understanding of the legal system. It promotes civic education, public participation and respect for the law, to improve the quality and administration of the legal system, and to support programs and projects related to the MBF’s purpose. Tyler has been a member of the MBA since law school and has been actively involved in a variety of ways since joining its ranks, including prior service as the President of the MBA’s Young Lawyers Section.

Tyler joined the MBF Board in 2021 and served as Chair for the MBF Public Outreach Committee before being elected Vice President in December 2022. While on that committee, he worked on post-pandemic revival methods for the MBF’s CourtConnect public education program. On November 2022, the Committee as well as representatives from the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization and Judge Chanpone Sinlapasai engaged on a tour of the new Multnomah County Courthouse. Tyler also continues to meet with the leadership team of the Mexican Consulate to learn about their important work in the community.

In addition to his role as Vice President of the MBF, Tyler also chairs the MBF Development Committee and will assist the newly-formed MBF CourtCare Task Force with maintaining and enhancing the drop-in childcare services available at the courthouse amidst an ongoing childcare staffing shortage.

On his experience, Tyler says “I am grateful for the ongoing opportunity to support important projects that directly impact the court and our community in meaningful ways. It is extremely rewarding work.”
